Covenant University Students visit FMDQ OTC PLC on a study tour. FMDQ played host to the Banking & Finance Students’ Association of Covenant University, Ota, Ogun State, on March 16 &17, 2015. This study tour provided an opportunity for the 400 level students to gain thorough insight into the scope and operations of FMDQ, and financial market activities in general.
Key activities during this tour included a presentation by the Group Head, Strategy & Corporate Communications, Kaodi Ugoji, on the overview of the Nigerian financial landscape as well as the FMDQ story, from its evolution to its role in the financial markets, milestones since inception, and strategic initiatives for 2015. The students were engaged in an interactive session on the Two-way Quote (2WQ) and Order-based Two-way Quote (OB2WQ) market trading styles and FMDQ’s examination and surveillance activities. They also had the opportunity to view the trading screens which showed live quotations from FMDQ Dealing Members during the day’s trading session.
According to Kaodi, “We are very pleased to see young people show genuine interest in the Nigerian financial markets. This year, a key strategic initiative for us at FMDQ is to promote financial markets literacy amongst various cadres of students as well as market participants; and this study tour is well in line with implementing this initiative”.
Desirous of promoting financial markets education across a wide range of stakeholders, FMDQ has articulated an ‘FMDQ Education Plan’, which is expected to bridge the knowledge gaps for stakeholders in the financial markets, with specific focus on the fixed income, currencies and derivatives products under its coverage. This resonates with the FMDQ mission to empower the financial market to be innovative and credible, in support of the Nigerian economy.
